Notes from Vannotes - Hot Cocoa Comic Con Tomorrow, January 31!
Come out to Fruitland, Idaho's one and only comic con!
It’s been a hot second since I sent out a newsletter, but in between the hustle and bustle of setting up for our wonderful vendors, I had a quick moment to write and remind my readers that Hot Cocoa Comic Con is tomorrow, January 31!

Besides being the wild and whacky comics event I put on for my birthday, Hot Cocoa Comic is a special opportunity to give to UMCOR - the United Methodist Committee on Relief. UMCOR is one of the top rated disaster relief organizations in the world, since all of the funds donated go to those in need. This is because the administrative costs for UMCOR are covered by a special giving Sunday of the church.
Below you can see our schedule for the event!

It may be hard work pulling it together, but I truly think this little event is a temporary alleviation for many from the clouds of fear that are currently blanketing our country. If you’re in the area, I encourage you to drop by!
Other Notes from Vannotes
What Am I Reading? Have I talked in these newsletters about how much I love Juno Dawson’s Her Majesty’s Royal Coven series? It’s like reading Chris Claremont’s Uncanny X-Men run with even more queer witches. I dragged my feet on finishing the second book, largely because I didn’t want to stop spending time with the characters each time I picked it up, but now I’m cruising through Human Rites.
What Am I Watching? I haven’t gotten a chance to watch the original Knives Out movie, but I was curious about what all the fuss was about. Wake Up Deadman!: A Knives Out Mystery had all the thrills of an Agatha Christie mystery with some surface level musings on the role of religion. I’m going to happily dive into the rest of the series once HCCC is wrapped.
What Am I Listening To? When the best of the year lists come out, I try to sample a few of the consistent top 10 albums, with some hit or miss results based on my personal tastes. Wednesday’s Bleeds is a huge stand out. I can’t listen to the track “Elderberry Wine” enough and I’m always tickled by the sonic storytelling of “Pick Up That Knife.”
What Am I Playing? Although it doesn’t compare to whimsy and originality of the the original Katamari Damacy, Once Upon a Katamari scratches that itch just a little. Sometimes you just need to play a video game about rolling things up in a giant ball. The UI is abysmally bad, but that is the price to pay for a sequel of such an idiosyncratic game.
That’s it for this newsletter! I hope to see you tomorrow and please stay safe out there. The only way we’re getting through these rough times is together, so I hope you are able to find loving community wherever you are.
All my best,
Vannotes
